it's been 6 weeks since the last maggie update. it might as well have been 6 months considering how much she has changed and grown in that time. i'm pretty sure she liked eating peas back then. she used to eat anything we gave her. not so much now. our sweet little girl definitely has a stubborn streak (wonder where she got that from). i tried to feed her salmon and spinach the other day, and she was pissed. she had no problem telling me, without a single word uttered, to "shove it". her faced turned bright red, the vein in her forehead started pulsing, and although she opened her mouth for every spoonful i gave her, she let me know she did not like it. she cried and screamed with every bite. then she started pounding her fists on her tray until i finally relented and fed her bananas instead. she doesn't like green veggies anymore. i know who she got that from (hint: not me). i hope it's just a phase because how could she possibly be sustained on a diet of only pears, bananas, applesauce, yogurt, tofu and puffs?
in the past week she has mastered her own little style of crawling. i guess you can call it crawling. it's more like how i imagine an inchworm moves, but she can get to what she wants, anywhere she wants, and fast. i wasn't watching her closely enough the other day, and before i knew it she was halfway down the hall and about to go head first down a flight of stairs. i think it's time to babyproof in earnest. she has started pulling herself up on stuff, and i'm sure cruising is only days away.
we have friends who have a son that is just two weeks younger than mags. we were at their house last weekend, and OMG they have soooo many toys. easily more than 5x what maggie has. it kinda made chad and i feel guilty. so we decided to make the 3rd floor into a playroom for maggie. her motor skills and hand-eye coordination have improved a lot recently so it is probably time for new challenging toys anyways. we have this big gumball machine thing that has balls that roll out of it when you pull a lever. we've had it for over a month now but she didn't really know what to do with it until a couple days ago. seemingly out of the blue, she figured it out - not only the lever, but also how to put the balls back in. i could practically see the wheels turning in her head. amazing.
what else...? still no teeth. even though we've been saying she's teething for like 4 months now. i guess it was just our go-to excuse for whenever she was cranky. haha. she can drink from a sippy and hold her own bottle (but rarely chooses to do so). she still loves bathtime, splashing around, and has no problem getting her face wet. i think she would live at the water table at COSI if we let her. i'm sure she'll love swimming, too. can't wait to take her to the pool this summer. she can say umma (korean for mommy). okay, maybe it's in the middle of a string of other babbling. and not really directed towards me but it still counts, right?
oh and how could i forget the best of all... she is sleeping through the night. yay! i never knew how much i missed sleep until i started getting it regularly again. so nice. every evening she goes down by 7:30 and sleeps until 6:30 in the morning. we still have 1 - 2 nights a week when she'll randomly want to get up and play at 4am. but it's not too bad. sometimes i think i should take the extra cuddle and play time when i can get it. naps are going great as well. and the big smiles she gives us when we go to get her after she wakes up make my heart melt into a big drippy puddle every single time.
i told chad the other day that i am in awe at how much i love our little bean. i mean, i knew i would love her. but i didn't realize how much i would LOVE her.
